Old Dan and I with Throats Burned Dry. . .

Everyone understands the importance of a marketing image. It’s the way a company tells a story to its customers. What does your brand say about your product? Quality, thrift, convenience, modernity? I would expect that the hospitality industry would try to convey comfort and relaxation to its guests.

Traveling through South Dakota, I stayed at a tourist hotel in the middle of Custer State Park. So, okay, it’s a western-themed area and I can understand that the idea of adventure and a hint of danger would be exciting for the visitor.

But this was the framed picture above my bed. It’s a cowboy, out by himself in the middle of the sagebrush-nowhere, and he’s just realized he’s out of water.
